Emma Watson Biography

Emma Charlotte Duerre Watson was born in the 15th of April
1990 and her height is 5' 5". She was born in France and she is best
known for her role as Hermione Granger in the Harry Potter series.

Emma was born in France, in a family of lawyers and she lived in
Paris until the age of five and then moved with her mother to Oxford,
England. Her parents, Jacqueline Duerre and Chris Watson divorced in
1995. She has a brother, Alex, who was born in 1993. As a young girl,
Emma attended The Dragon School and by 2003, she was attending the
Headington School in the city of Oxford. In June 2006, Emma Watson took
the GCSE examinations achieving eight A and two A grades. She is now
studying to take the Advanced Subsidiary levels in Art, Dance and
English literature.

Before being picked for the Harry Potter film series, her
performances were limited to leading roles in school plays such as
Arthur: The Young Years and The Happy Prince. Also, she took part in the
Daisy Pratt Poetry Competition, where she won first place for her year
(when she was seven).

Acting career

Emma Watson was 11 in 2001 when she made her debut as an actress in
Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone (in the United States was
released as Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone) in which she played
the role of Hermione Granger. She has also appeared in the other 3 Harry
Potter films: Chamber of Secrets (in 2002), Prisoner of Azkaban (in
2004), and Goblet of Fire (in 2005).

Harry Potter's fans have expressed different opinions about Emma
Watson's way of playing the role of Hermione Granger: Some fans feel she
is the perfect choice for the role; others believe that Emma fails get
into character, and complain that she is "too pretty" for the role—an
opinion shared by some of the film critics—as in the book series,
Hermione has been described as being very "plain". However, the Harry
Potter movies made Hermione a more powerful and interesting character
than originally written by the author J. K. Rowling.

Shooting the Harry Potter movies kept Watson too busy to get involved
in other projects; however, she has shown interest in expanding her
film career beyond the "the Potter World".

Although her young age, Emma already has many awards for her roles in
the Harry Potter film series. These awards are: Best Female Film Star
(Silver): Otto Awards in 2003, Best Female Child Artist: Phoenix Film
Critics Society, for Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets, Total Film
Magazine "Child Performance of the Year" in 2004, Best Female Film Star
(Bronze): Otto Awards in 2005, Best Female Film Star (Gold): Otto
Awards in 2006.
Also, she was nominated for other movie awards many times. She was
nominated for the Saturn Award: for Harry Potter and the Philosopher's
Stone, Empire Award: for Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone,
Outstanding Supporting Actress: American Moviegoer Awards (2002), Best
Performance in a Feature Film - Leading Young Actress: Young Artists
Awards (2002), Best Ensemble in Feature Film: Young Artist Awards, for
Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone, Best Young Actress: Broadcast
Film Critics Association Awards (2004), Best Young Actress: Broadcast
Film Critics Association Awards (2005).
She also played the role of Hermione Granger in The Queen's Handbag, a
special mini-episode of Harry Potter dedicated to the Queen Elizabeth
II's 80th birthday.

Private life

Emma Watson is a sport lover and enjoys field hockey, tennis and
also, rounders. As cats are her favorite animals, she owns 2 of them;
their names are Bubbles and Domino.

Her musical preferences include hip hop, blues, and classic rock. She
is a fan of U2, Eric Clapton, Eminem, and Nelly Furtado. Emma considers
that her celebrity status is partially responsible for not having a
boyfriend and says that boys are generally intimidated by her name and
her notoriety. She was ranked #98 in the FHM’s list of 100 Sexiest Women
in the World for the year 2007.

Emma's name is the same as her grandmother's, and a fictional
character's in The Watsons, an unfinished novel written by Jane Austen.
At age 15, she was the youngest actress to appear on the cover of Teen
Vogue magazine. Along with Kenneth Branagh, Samantha Morton and Pierce
Brosnan she also served on a jury created to select the 2004 teenaged
filmmakers' "First Light Film Award" ceremony in the London's Leicester
Square.
