Some Facts You Need to Know About Hip Pain
Hip pain
is one of many discomforts experienced by most people all over the
world. The aching sensation restrains them from doing the things they
love and even the most common errands at home. Try to ease the pain at
the early stage before things get worse.
The hip joint is a ball and socket joint, with the round headed femur
and cup-like acetabulum of the pelvis allowing it to perform a wide
range of motion. The joint is surrounded by a capsule filled with fluid
that serves as shock absorber and allows the joint to move smoothly for a
longer period of time. There are many causes of hip pain and these
could crop up from the structures within or surrounding the hip joint.
However, in some cases, the pain is not directly over the hip and could
be a reflection of back problems.
The
most common cause of pain in the hip area is due to hip fracture or
traumas brought about by a dramatic fall or injury. Hip fracture, which
is quite common to old people, is due to osteoporosis wherein the bones become brittle and cannot sustain the weight of the body. Arthritis,
trochanteric bursitis and tendonitis or inflammation on the structures
within and surrounding the hip joint can also be possible causes.
Strained muscles could also be a major reason for hip discomfort as well
as back and spine problems that cause symptoms around the buttocks and
hip area.
If you are unable to bend your hip or when the pain is bugging you
during night time or it has been persistent for some days or even weeks,
it would be best to seek medical attention as soon as possible. Proper
diagnosis of the symptoms is highly important in administering the
proper treatment to the specific cause of the problem.
Some of the common treatment is ice and heat application where ice
packs and heat pads are used; proper rest to let the inflammation
subside, non-steroidal anti-inflammatory medications and physical
therapy. Physiotherapy
is an important aspect of treatment where the patient is engaged in a
series of exercises, techniques and stretches to regain mobility.
Spare yourself from the costly operation of hip replacement; don’t
take your hip pain for granted. When you feel ache on your hip or
buttocks, ask your doctor. Sometimes, a simple discomfort might turn out
to be a huge disaster.
